The patented Hi-Line AirPLUG mechanism is designed to serve as a decoupling device that minimizes microphone interference and preserves the integrity of the audio signal. The many rear sections of the AirPLUG are combined to form a flexible, lossy section. The cable is attached to the end of this flexible section. Other features of the AirPLUG include a significantly reduced metal content to reduce electromagnetic effects, a design to reduce the effects of eddy current, and a cable attachment mechanism that does not compress the cable or adversely affect its impedance.
The cable has also been carefully designed to contribute to the sound quality. It consists of 80-wire twisted pairs of Litz wire jacketed with PTFE, Kapton and PTFE tape, then encased in a semiconductor shield to reduce static charges. They are then wrapped in two spiral copper shields and wound PTFE tape. Two of these side-by-side assemblies are then wrapped in PTFE tape and finally in an outer jacket. This configuration results in a two-way cable in which the signal and RF grounds are held in a static position relative to each other, eliminating any field difference between them.
