TECHNOLOGIES / MANUFACTURING TECHNIQUES Even though the CD5si's name is only one letter different from its predecessor, it incorporates many important advances and improvements, all designed to deliver even more musicality and enjoyment. For starters, the CD5si's DAC chip has been changed to a Burr Brown PCM1793 chip - a device very similar to the one used in the high-end NDX streaming player. The CD5si also gets a more stable DAC clock, higher voltage power rails, a redesigned analog filter, a new CD transport system and a brand new laser optic. Needless to say, all of these changes are driven by our constant pursuit of technical reliability, sound quality, and audio performance, and each modification has been validated after many hours of listening. However, just as change can lead to improvement, sometimes it makes sense to stick with tried and true techniques. That's precisely why the CD5si incorporates all the best features of its predecessor and of Naim's trademarks - the unique Naim tilting CD drawer, the laser playback and digital error correction software, the discrete electronics of the analogue outputs and the non-magnetic moulded case that allows the internal electronics to extract the best possible sound from each CD.
