Technology and Manufacturing

The streaming part of the ND5 XS 2 benefits from the latest Naim network card that incorporates high-speed, low-noise LVDS (low-voltage differential signalling) technology to carry the digital audio signal. This high speed allows the decoding of all HD audio formats up to 32 bit/384kHz or DSD128. The source no longer acts as the digital timing master - our new streaming card takes over and allows our DAC clock to control the audio data stream. The data is upsampled by an entire factor in a SHARC DSP processor to an incredible 40-bit precision before being passed to the Burr-Brown PCM1791A DAC.

The development of a new streaming platform was one of the most important projects ever undertaken by our company. Naim engineers from all disciplines - electronic, industrial, acoustic and mechanical engineering - worked for three years to create a system that could make the most of online services such as TIDAL and Spotify while adding a measure of flexibility for the future via Chromecast built-in. Supporting faster speeds with dual-band Wi-Fi and the latest 802.11ac protocol, this robust platform was designed for the highest performance at all levels.
